Conway J – 1904
BB Gazette Vol.13 No.2 – To Private James Con way (aged 15), 1st Enfield Company, for swimming to the rescue of a younger brother.
Having recently returned from Company camp, James Conway aged 15, saw his brother sinking in the river. James entered the water and after much effort managed to pull his brother to the bank, where his father completed the rescue. James was completely exhausted by his efforts to rescue his brother and drifted back into deep water and was drowned. The Boys’ Brigade Cross for Heroism was awarded posthumously and given to the 1st Enfield Company in his memory.
