Williams G – 1907
On the 12th July [George Williams] jumped bravely into the canal and sought to save the life of another boy, aged nine years. He succeeded in getting him to the bank,…. And after artificial respiration had been continued for a quarter of an hour the little patient was brought round. (2)
George Williams, aged 14, presented with Royal Humane Society’s certificate for heroism in rescuing George Marshall, a nine year old boy, from drowning, in Derby Canal, July 12th, 1907. Williams is a corporal in the 2nd Company, Boys’ Brigade, St. John’s Church Section. Tomorrow the Mayor will present him with the Boys’ Brigade Cross for Heroism. (3)
This award is recorded in ‘The Boys’ Brigade Cross for Heroism and Diploma for Gallant Conduct register’, however, it was never recorded in The Boys’ Brigade Gazette.
