Frederick Priest was walking along the foreshore with the other Boys when they suddenly discovered that they had been surrounded by the incoming tide. They endeavoured to wade across, and one of the Boys was swept off his feet by the swift current. Frederick  immediately swam to him and seizing him brought him back a distance of 30 yards to the shore. The third Boy was vainly endeavouring to swim against the current but was losing ground, and Frederick re-entered the water and succeeded in reaching him and bringing him also to safety. The foreshore at Tetney Haven is one of the most dangerous parts of the Lincolnshire coast, and from all accounts it appears only too likely that these two Boys, who were not expert swimmers, would have lost their lives but for Frederick Priest’s gallant action.
