Thurso the most Northerly town on the Uk Mainland is the birthplace of the founder Sir William Alexander Smith who was born at Pennyland House and we are extremely proud of this.

Entrance signs at both ends of the town have welcoming signs bearing his name. Before William left Thurso as a teenager he was known to regularly drill boys on Thurso Beach under the watchful eye of a Sergeant in the local artillery we have written proof of this in the museum.

The Sir William Alexander Smith Memorial Museum was officially opened in 2001 after many donations of memorabilia donated after an appeal and along with items we had in our own BB hall. Many, many hours of work were put into getting the museum fit for the public and I can never thank Lorraine and Graham my son and daughter in law for all the help they gave me to see my project fulfilled. Opening day was spectacular with Grampian Television there as well as reporters from the press as well as our local Pipe band.

The museum has numerous items of memorabilia, badge displays, Membership card display, books and items now from all over the world. It has gone from strength to strength with beautiful displays donated by John Russell and mounted ready for putting up on our display boards by John Inglis. Two huge collections are on display in the museum, John Russell kindly gifted most of his huge collection of memorabilia and the 2nd Prestwick collection collaborated by John Inglis is also on display. We are extremely lucky to continue to receive memorabilia for the museum and it now houses a vast collection.
