Benney J – 1917

BB Gazette Vol.25 No.5  – The Executive have awarded The Boys’ Brigade Cross for Heroism to Private Richard J.E. Benney, 1st Brighton Company, for rescuing a Boy from drowning in the sea at Brighton.

Benney, who was only 12 years of age at the time of the rescue went to the help of a Boy older than himself, who had fallen into deep water and become entangled among some fishing gear.
