BB Gazette Vol.14 No.2 – The Brigade Executive have awarded the Cross for Heroism to Corporal William Baillie (aged 16), 4th Sunderland Company, for rescuing a Boy from drowning in the river Tees.

Royal Humane Society ledger entry 34288 – The lads were bathing and Percival Simon got into difficulty, W.H. Chick went to his help but was clutched and could not save him Baillie then got in and diving brought him up and both got into a boat.
