Bower W -1911

BB Gazette Vol.20 No.2 – Corporal Walter Bower, aged 14, 8th Nottingham Company, for attempting to save a Boy from drowning in the River Trent, on 1st August, 1911.

Summarised from Nottingham Football News 30th September 1911 – Walter Bower was presented at the Drill Hall, Hound Road, Nottingham, with the BB Cross for Heroism for a gallant attempt to save life at Colwick Weir.

The First Fifty Years 8th Nottingham 1897-1947 – history of the 8th Nottingham (West Bridgeford) Company – re the opening of their new Company Headquarters on 12th October 1913  –  Sir Wm Smith, Founder of the BB, was present at the opening and gave a most stirring address. He congratulated Col. Sergt Walter Bower on winning the BB Cross for Heroism. Other 8th Company Boys who have won that high honour are S Henshall in 1915 and A Cousins in 1918.
