Boyter G – 1934

BB Gazette Vol.43 No.8 – The Boys’ Brigade Cross for Heroism has been awarded to Private George Boyter, aged thirteen, of the 2nd Gourock Company, for saving the life of another Boy from drowning in the sea at Gourock Pier on the night of the 13th December, 1934.

Several Boys were playing at the end of the pier when one of them fell into the sea. George immediately threw a herring-box into the sea. The drowning Boy succeeded in hanging on to it but began to drift out, and then, although it was pitch dark and bitterly cold, George dived into the water and, reaching the Boy, managed to rescue him.
