Jefferies P – 1905

BB Gazette Vol.14 No.4 – The Brigade Executive have awarded the Cross for Heroism to Corporal Peter R. Jefferies, aged 15, 4th Leith Company, for rescuing a Boy from drowning at the West Pier, Leith.

Corporal Jefferies has also been awarded the Testimonial of the Royal Humane Society for the same act. A month previous to this incident he obtained the Proficiency Certificate of the Royal Life Saving Society, and had won the Leith Schools Swimming Championship for 1905.

Royal Humane Society No. 34173 – for saving J M Comochie on 14th August 1905, Leith harbour.  The lad was fishing and fell into the harbour 20ft deep and the tide going out. Jeffries threw off his jacket and jumped in rescuing him.
