Kneebone P -1936
BB Gazette Vol.45 No.5 – The Boys’ Brigade Cross for Heroism has been awarded to Corporal P. G. Kneebone, aged i6, of the 4th Plymouth Company for saving a Boy from drowning in the sea at Meadowfoot Beach, Mothecombe, Devon, on the 6th of August, 1936. Some boys had entered the sea at a treacherous part of the beach where undercurrents from a river make bathing very dangerous. One of these soon got into difficulties and although a visitor went to his assistance he was unable to make headway. Corporal Kneebone on learning of the danger immediately ran to the spot, swam out, took the boy from the man and brought him ashore. The man struggled ashore in a very exhausted condition, and but for Kneebone’s prompt and plucky action there would probably have been a double fatality.
