Penn R – 1960

BB Gazette Vol.69 No.6 – The Boys’ Brigade Cross for Heroism has been awarded to Private Roy Penn, 1st British Virgin Islands (Tortola) Company.

Penn and some friends were fishing from a boat just off the coast of Tortola in the Caribbean Sea, when one of the Boys fell overboard. He could not swim and was soon in difficulties in the swiftly flowing water. The sea was known to be infested with sharks but without hesitation Penn dived in. He succeeded in holding up his friend and without assistance, by swimming over conger holes and climbing over sea eggs, succeeded in bringing his friend safely ashore.
